Our Farm

I
n the heart of the Pyrenees, Cap de la Coste is a small, family-run farm with 12 brood mares and 4 stallions. All our horses are registered in the American stud-book of the American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA).

When we went to the USA to select our breeders, we looked for horses that really did have the appearance and the quality of movement of horses. We chose hardy, polyvalent animals with irreproachable character, placing the emphasis on quality rather than quantity. We looked for genuine miniature horses as close as possible to the Arab type, both in appearance and temperament. The height we considered to be the ideal compromise was between 75 and 85 cm. We also tried to get animals from renowned stock that is rare in Europe and several of our horses are sons or daughters of national champions in the USA, some have already shown their worth in competitions there or in Europe and some have even demonstrated their merits as breeders and are parents of American or European champions...

Our horses are raised in the open air and live in a herd. We have chosen this approach because it suits the gregarious nature of the mares, foals and stallions and gives them the good psychological balance that comes from living in harmony with the social group and the rules of nature. Only foaling is conducted in boxes to keep a close watch on the mares and raise the foals using the "Miller" method. Our horses feed on grass all year round, supplemented by hay and cereals. As for other care, they are exactly the same as horses of any other breed. Miniature horses are not fragile animals and the health issues are the same as for larger horses.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us or come and see us. The best solution is always to come and see for yourself just what marvellous companions American miniature horses make. For their beauty, mild temperament and hard-working character, you are certain to fall under their charm just as we have.
